Glenn's test of character

Posted on 13 April 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle says we will have to ‘put our character head on’ at Sunderland.

We travel to the Stadium of Light on Saturday with eight first team players on the injury list.

Ledley King may be the only player to return as Sol Campbell, Steffen Iversen, Steffen Freund, Les Ferdinand, Darren Anderton, Chris Armstrong, Ben Thatcher and Mauricio Taricco sit it out.

That could mean a chance for the fringe players — not least after Glenn watched the reserve team in action on Wednesday night.

“It’s not very good on the injury front,” admitted Glenn. “We’ve eight first teamers out.

“I watched the reserve team very closely onWednesday night, saw a couple of young lads that we’ll bring into the squad who haven’t had too much experience but that’s the situation we’re in. The team virtually picks itself.

“I’ll find out quite a lot about the players and their character.

“They’ve already showed a lot of character after Sunday’s disappointments to come through it on Tuesday, keep going and it was sticky wicket against Bradford at one point, the crowd were getting restless, but we came through it and could have had a hatful of goals.

“We’ll have to go up to Sunderland, put our character head on and get a good result.”

We are priced at 100/30 to win on Wearside - click here for details.
