Gazza returns to the Lane with Everton on Saturday after attracting rave reports for his recent performances in the Premiership. While Glenn is happy to discuss Gazza's magic feet, he also points out that he has a 'heart of gold'.
"I saw an interview with him at the weekend and it was excellent to hear him talk so openly," said Glenn. "And I think he's seen where maybe he wants to change himself and possibly change youngsters and help them.
"That's really refreshing. Gazza has always been a kind-hearted lad anyway, he's got a heart of gold.
"You get the feeling that he wants to help. If there's anyone out there who's going down the same road, he wants to tell them he has a few regrets and he can help them. I think that's excellent."
Glenn adds that Gazza is the ideal person to talk to younger players as he has lived through and encountered many of the perils that they will possibly face at some stage.
"There are lots of things in life you can learn about. If you've experienced them and you want to hand them on, whether it's footballers or any walk of life, you're talking from your heart not just your mind.
"I think that's important and is good for the game in the future if people like that are prepared to talk about it."
A debate has emerged in recent days as to whether the likes of Gazza, Paul Merson and Tony Adams are suitable to address young footballers. Peter Beardsley raised the issue and Glenn says that both model professionals and ones who have overcome difficulties have much to offer in this direction.
"On the other side of the fence, if people have been bought up with the right habits it's also good that they can speak about how to overcome the pitfalls.
"The debate this week about if Peter Beardsley's right or the others are right - I think both sides of the fence are correct.
"As I was saying though, unless you've experieced something you can't really speak from the heart. You can only understand a little bit of it and speak from the mind."
Glenn Hoddle has spoken of his admiration for Paul Gascoigne's pledge to offer advice and guidance to young players.
