Glenn Hoddle revealed this afternoon that he'd been tracking Japanase international Kazuyuki Toda for over a year.
The World Cup star was unveiled to the world's press - mainly Japenese - at a press conference at the Lane after signing a 12-month loan from J-League outfit Shimizu S-Pulse.
'Kazu', as he wants to be known at Spurs, played in all Japan's games as they reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup and has won 20 caps in total.
Boss Glenn said: "I spoke to Stevie Perryman over a year ago now about the player.
"He'd coached him for five years and said that out of all the Japanese international players he felt he had the true pedigree to play in the Premiership.
"At the time we looked at the situation and it didn't quite suit us timing-wise with the squad we had at that moment.
"But we kept an eye on him, watched him very closely in the World Cup and now the time is right. We're delighted to have him under contract."
