The midfielder, 35, had struggled all week with an ankle injury but you would never had guessed after his inspirational display.
Gus scored the first goal and created the third in the 4-1 win and proved a constant thorn in Sunderland's side.
"This fella has played with an ankle black and blue," said Glenn.
"He hasn't trained all week, we sent him abroad to get some treatment, he had a fitness test in the morning and when he passed it he went back down the tunnel like he was 18 years of age, punching the air.
"That is his attitude and that is wonderful to work with.
"The little risk we took paid off. He got into the box to give us a good start, made the goal for Simon and him and Teddy use all that experience out there to guide us through.
"It was a great performance. His ankle is in pieces now but he'll be alright - we've got two weeks until the next game now!"
Glenn Hoddle revealed that Gus Poyet punched the air 'like an 18-year-old' after passing his fitness test before Saturday's win against Sunderland.
