Glenn Hoddle has urged the fans to support Steffen Iversen as much as their new hero Robbie Keane.
The Irish star grabbed the headlines, rightly so, for his magnificent hat-trick against Everton on Sunday, but there were some dissenting voices again towards his strike partner.
Boss Glenn believes if fans support the club, they support every player.
He reasoned: "The crowd love Robbie and rightly so, he's inventive, he's great turning and running at people, they are right behind him and they'll sacrifice a couple of bad decisions from him. I ask them to do the same with Steffen Iversen.
"Steffen is a very good player and will score goals for us. We're working on a few things he can improve on but it won't help him if the fans get on his back.
"As good as they are getting behind Robbie, let's give every player that chance.
"Steffen got important goals for us last season and when he came on against Charlton he changed the game for us and nearly got the winner. I was expecting more from our fans getting behind him after his performance in that game.
"I think it's only fair. If we support the club, we support every player that goes out there in a white shirt. That's what it's about.
"We're all human beings and when we get behind a player, he'll play 100 times better.
"I would ask them to look at that. In the second half when we started to play well they responded and that put us into another couple of gears. That support here has been fantastic all season and we all appreciate it."
