Glenn aims to bridge gap

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

It was suggested by the massed media to Glenn Hoddle that Sunday’s semi-final defeat underlined that we were light years behind Arsenal.
But in recognising that he had a ‘massive job’ on his hands at the Lane, Glenn insisted that wasn’t the case.
“I don’t think you can put football squads in terms of years,” said Glenn at Old Trafford after the 2-1 defeat.
“You can look at the quality Arsenal have got, where they are in the league and what they are doing in the Champions’ League.
“Them, United, Leeds, Liverpool - they are the teams at the moment, but things change very quickly in football.
“No-one has said this isn’t a massive job. I’ve always liked a challenge and always took it head on. But these are questions I can’t answer after six days at the club.”
When pressed again about the distance between us and our North London rivals, Glenn added: “There were reasons behind that performance.
“You can’t deny that it was a difficult week, especially not knowing what my team was and waiting for players to come out of the treatment room.
“Then things like that happen during the game, with Sol, who we didn’t expect to be fit. We left it until nine o’clock on Sunday morning. You then lose him not with that ankle but with his other ankle.
“We had four or five players with five to six weeks out, no reserve match under their belts, that we had to throw in.
“No disrespect to Wycombe but if we were drawn against them that might have been enough for us to get through and then bide our time for the final. But that wasn’t the case.”
Listen to Glenn's thoughts by clicking here<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
