Giovani dos Santos would love to see his friend, team-mate and CONCACAF rival Wilson Palacios reach the World Cup.
Wilson faces a huge qualifying match for Honduras at home against the USA in San Pedro Sula on Saturday before a group finale against El Salvador on Wednesday, October 14.
The USA currently top the CONCACAF (North, Central America and Caribbean) group by a point from Gio's Mexico with Honduras third and Costa Rica fourth.
Three of those teams will book a place in South Africa 2010 by Wednesday night with the fourth-placed team facing a play-off against the fifth-placed team in South American qualifying.
"I hope Wilson makes it," said Gio, who will miss the big finale after picking up an ankle ligament injury at Preston. "He's my friend and I want the best for him.
"Honduras have some very good players. They have been doing well in the qualification and they need four points from their two games to make it to the World Cup.
"They can do it but they have two difficult games and the first one is against the USA. That will be a massive game but if they win it, I think they will be in the World Cup.
"Wilson is a big player for them and if Honduras make it to South Africa I will be so happy for him."
Qualification would appear somewhat more straight forward for Mexico as they need a win from their matches against the bottom two - El Salvador on Saturday, Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday.
Gio has been in electric form for Mexico throughout the qualification process. "We need one win and we play El Salvador at home on Saturday, so that would be perfect," he added.
