It was a quiet afternoon in attacking terms for the Mexican forward who found himself forced into more defensive duties in the first half before making way for Aaron Lennon just before the hour mark in the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.
Darren Bent struck just before half-time to level up Juliano Belletti's opener as Chelsea had the better of the first period and we hit back to enjoy at least an equal share of the possession after the break.
It was our first point of the campaign and the third-successive occasion we've come from behind to either draw or beat Chelsea.
"It was a good point for us, our first point and the team worked very hard," reflected Gio before flying out for international duty with Mexico this week. "It was good reward for us.
"We defended well, battled and showed the character of the team to come back.
"Chelsea are a good team but we were strong and managed to score a goal. We deserved it.
"It has been a tough start to the season but this showed if we work hard we can do anything."
