Gilberto's learning curve

Gilberto will report for international duty with Brazil happy with his first six months at Spurs.

The full-back joined us from Hertha Berlin in January and although initially hit by a calf problem, gained valuable early experience of the Premier League with six appearances and his first goal for the club in the 4-0 win against West Ham.

Another four matches for our reserve team helped the 31-year-old adapt and build fitness and he sees the last few months as a key spell.

"I feel like I’ve learnt a lot about the Premier League and the team," he reflected. "I’ve also enjoyed working with the coaching staff and the players.

"Next season I’m hoping to improve on a personal level and speak better English. My family have adapted to life in England, so the last few months have been important for me.”

Like Didier Zokora, Gilberto faces a busy summer period with friendlies against Canada and Venezuela in the USA before World Cup 2010 qualifiers against Paraguay and Argentina on June 15 and 18 respectively.

"Argentina and Paraguay are probably the two most important matches for Brazil," he stated. "I hope to play these two matches but it’s up to the coach Carlos Dunga.”
