George Graham pondered on Stephen Carr’s latest injury setback and suspects that the flying full-back is suffering from a hernia.
When Carr was first marked absent from first team duty it was with a groin problem.
He made a brief comeback as substitute in the victories over Charlton and Manchester City before again falling victim to the injury, which appeared to have spread to the abdominal area.
A visit to the specialist confirms the need for surgery. “It’s in the pelvic area again. It looks like, and we don’t know for definite, something like a hernia,” said George.

“He’s gone over to Germany to have an exploratory operation and then we’ll know more about it when they’ve done that.

“We’re having some problems with some of the players down in the pelvic area. We’ve got Taricco, Armstrong, Thatcher and Carr — players out with similar types of injuries.”

George is confident that Carr will return to the fold before long and does not foresee a problem in terms of playing again this season. “No not really, probably four to six weeks.”

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
