George's home truths

Posted on 31 December 2000  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

George Graham insisted he will drive some ‘home truths’ into the players after Saturday’s disappointments at Ipswich Town.

The manager described the 3-0 Premiership defeat as the ‘worst performance of the season’ and was clearly upset when he talked the media afterwards.

The loss not only stretched our dismal away record to two draws and nine defeats but also saw us slip into 13th in the table.

George only has two days to turn the side around before what has become a crucial home clash against Newcastle United on Tuesday.

He said: “We’ll get some home truths into the players between now and Tuesday.

“We’ve got to be more competitive. We’re in a competitive business, a competitive profession and we have to be competitive.

“After that we can talk about silky football and other aspects of the game.

“Ipswich were not only bright on the ball but worked very hard without the ball. We’ve got to do both.

“Ipswich have a good little team, play nice bright football but we’ve got to have more.

“Teams associated with me don’t give in as easily as that. We make teams fight for everything they are going to get.”
