George: Time was right for Ginola

Posted on 10 November 2000 - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

George Graham has reiterated that the time was right for us to part company with David Ginola in the summer.
The French superstar, a hero to fans in his three years at the Lane, left under a cloud in July after Aston Villa stumped up £3million for his services.
We could now meet again at Villa Park on Saturday as Ginola has timed to perfection his return from the thigh problem that has restricted him to just four starts in the Premiership this season.
Boss George insisted again that the move was right for both parties. He said: “I’ve nothing more to say about David than I’ve said in the past.
“He was the main instigator in us winning the Worthington Cup with some great performances.
“I enjoyed my time with David and I said the time and I repeat now the relationship was good — David was good for Tottenham but Tottenham was also good for David in giving him the platform to exhibit his talents.
“But these relationships sometimes come to an end. It was right that David should move on because he wanted to play first team football every week.
“Nowadays if you are hoping to take a big club like Tottenham up there challenging again you must have a system where you have lots of players. No-one can play every game the way they would like to. So it was a good move for David and Tottenham.”
Ginola was on the bench for Villa’s 1-0 win at Everton last week so boss John Gregory faces a dilemma of changing a winning team if Ginola is to start against his old club.
George added: “They won their last game so it will be interesting to see if he does come back and in what position he plays.”
To listen to George's thoughts, click here
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
