The pair lock horns again at the Lane on Monday night with Wenger just edging the private dual 2-1 in four derby meetings since George took charge of Spurs.
This encounter has an extra edge now with Manchester United’s defeat against Liverpool on Sunday — if the Gunners win, they will be within three points of United at the top of the Premiership.
George said: “Arsene Wenger has done very well, magnificent.
“He was the first foreigner to win the championship, winning the double. You can only look at a person’s record and he has been a contender since he came over here. You can only hold your hands up and say he’s done a fantastic job.
“I’ve had a few chats with him. He’s a nice man, a football fanatic and he himself says he only goes out twice a year socially.”
Closer to home, George has been delighted with Les Ferdinand’s rejuvenation in a Spurs shirt. The striker admitted he was close to quitting after suffering terrible Achilles problems last season but has come back stronger than ever.
George stated: “The biggest bonus is Les Ferdinand right now. At Bradford last week he was outstanding and that has to be the biggest bonus for the team.
“He’s injury free, confident, scoring a few goals. It’s just nice to see. He’s and a horrific time with injuries for two or three years and if he can stay injury free he could be such an asset just now.”
