Posted on 23 May 2001 - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Anthony Gardner has admitted he’s devastated after being told he’ll miss the start of next season through injury.
The young defender fell awkwardly after an aerial challenge in our season’s finale against Manchester United on Saturday and scans on Monday revealed serious damage to the medial ligament in his left knee.
He has been told by specialists that it will be up to three months before he can train again.
It is a huge blow to the 20-year-old who impressed so much in an extended run in the Premiership at the end of the season.
That form earned him an England Under-21 call but the injury will rule him out of the chance to win a first cap, out of the start of pre-season training and, at worst, rule him out for the start of next season — kicking-off on August 18.
A shocked Gardner revealed: “I’ve a lot of damage in my ligaments on my left knee.
“At first I just thought I’d twisted it or jarred it and even in the dressing room afterwards it was in my head that I’d just twisted but I had the scan on Monday and it was a bit worse than expected.
“The specialist has said it will be a maximum of three months before I start training again to make sure it doesn’t go again. There is damage around the ligaments and it’s one I have to be careful with.
“I’m devastated. First of all it means I’ll have a different summer to what I’d planned. I was looking forward to getting a break, getting away and coming back for next season.
“It’s a bit frustrating. The last thing I needed was to get an injury at the end of the season and have to fight my way to fitness again before getting back into the frame.
“I’ve been able to show the gaffer what I can do and get myself into his plans for next season.
“This is a setback but I will have to get my head down, work at it and come back.
“At least I’m young. I’m not in my late 20s or early 30s. I’ve got time to get it right. I’ll hopefully play for another 15 years so it’s something I can get right.”
By Paul Miles

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
