Fulham 0-0 Spurs

English Barclays Premiership

Fulham pushed Spurs all the way at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night. Jean Tigana's First Division contenders had the best of it as we stretched our pre-season record to five clean sheets in five friendlies.

The home side carved out the best chances and Kevin Betsy hit the underside of the bar from close range just after the hour. The same player also had the ball in the net, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Despite that, we forced the best two saves of the match out of Maik Taylor in the Fulham goal.

The Cottagers gave notice of their attacking intentions in the first half. It took only four minutes for John Collins to fire in the first shot and Luis Boa Morte's curler was inches away with Neil Sullivan beaten.

Taylor superbly tipped over Sol Campbell's drive from Darren Anderton's corner in the 15th minute, but the rest of the half belonged to Tigana's side. Anderton denied Betsy a chance from Bjarne Goldbaek's cross, Rufus Brevett dragged across goal and Sullivan spread himself well to block Boa Morte's one-on-one. Collins stung Sullivan's fingers with another drive just before the break.

Fulham started in the same vein in the second half as Lee Clark and Goldbaek lashed in shots, but Steffen Iversen, on for Les Ferdinand, showed the game's first touch of class, his lob from 25 yards landed on the roof of the net.

Tim Sherwood was controversially ordered to be substituted by referee, Graham Poll, for a tackle on Goldbaek after 55 minutes and seconds later, Sergei Rebrov found Anderton, whose shot was tipped over by Taylor.

Fulham's golden chance came on 62 minutes when Eddie Lewis' cross found Betsy eight yards out. Betsy hit the underside of the bar and Goldbaek fluffed the rebound.

As we made a few substitutions, the game petered out somewhat, but Boa Morte almost clinched it in the last minute when Sullivan saved his shot before he fired the rebound into the side netting.

Next up is Danny Maddix's testimonial at QPR on Saturday (KO 3pm).
