The full-back’s big moment arrived after eight first team appearances this season, including his Premier League debut for us as a substitute against Liverpool.
It’s fair to say Zeki’s emotions were a complete contrast to that day as we ran out deserved 3-0 winners against Stoke on Sunday.
Zeki’s performance impressed Head Coach Tim Sherwood and goals from Roberto Soldado, Mousa Dembele and Aaron Lennon made sure he had a smile on his face as he emerged from the changing room.
“It’s gone from one extreme to another, from one of my most disappointing moments (Liverpool) to one of the best,” said Zeki, who turned 21 in September.
“That’s how football is, up and down. Anything can happen.
“I’m happy with my performance and we dominated the game. It was a great display from the lads.
“It was an incredible feeling - my first start, a full game and I’ve got to build on that now.
“I’m getting more experience and playing with great players every day, that helps to improve you as a player. I need to show what I’m capable of when I get the opportunity."
Zeki is now hoping to take his appearances into double-figures – with a trip to his former club Manchester United up next on New Year’s Day.
“It will be great to go back there and hopefully I’ll have some involvement, we’ll have to wait and see,” he added.
