Frustration for Young

English Barclays Premiership

Luke Young has had pull out of England Under-21 plans this week after failing to shift a foot problem.

It’s another hammer blow for the youngster after he looked set for a run in the heart of defence until picking up the problem against West Ham.

There were fears that he had broken his foot or ankle and he appeared on crutches with a protective cast the day after the West Ham game but those fears were quickly erased and he actually returned to action against Manchester City.

However, Young aggravated the problem in that match and has been undergoing treatment ever since.

He revealed: “It’s a bit of a blow to miss out especially as they are important qualifying matches. It’s always nice to play for England and I’ve enjoyed it. But it’s not to be this time.

“The foot is not 100 per cent yet, still feeling sore and it seems all I can do is rest it. I’m not really putting a time scale on when I’m aiming to return, I’ll just see how it goes.

“I have felt a bit down. It’s never nice to be injured and this came around after I thought I did okay against West Ham. Now I’m missing out on another two big games. It’s disappointing.”
