Les Ferdinand admits that his neck injury is a huge source of frustration because the rest of his body is in such good shape.
His neck injury followed the blow on the head he sustained against Everton and the in-form striker has been sidelined since then and missed out on the semi-final return against Chelsea and the visit of his former club Newcastle.
"It's coming along," reported Les. "It's a bit frustrating when the rest of your body feels in pretty good shape. It's something that's just holding me back and restricting me from what I really want to do.
"I took a bang on the head, but when I was in hospital I was getting lots of pains in the back of my neck. They did Xrays and scans and it came up clear.
"I came out on the Sunday, had a massage on the Monday and just did a jog, then joined in training on Tuesday. I headed the ball and it just all locked up again.
"I went back to see the surgeon and he said it's just a case of whiplash really."
Les says there is an outside chance of him making the trip to Derby, but feels Bolton in the FA Cup on Tuesday is a more realistic target.
"I think there is a chance for Saturday, but it's a slim chance. I think we're more looking at trying to get it ready for the week.
"It's a frustrating thing like a said. I'm able to run, but I'm not looking over my shoulder too much. I do feel physically fit, but your head and your neck are parts of the body you don't take chances with.
"I've been there before and it is a frustrating time, but it won't be too long. The surgeon assured me that, because of my physique and the fact I train every day, it will only be two weeks."
