Michael Dawson has quickly turned his attentions to Wigan after playing his part in England’s win against Wales.
The defender earned his fourth cap and helped the Three Lions to a clean sheet in a 90-minute stint as goals from Frank Lampard and Darren Bent secured a 2-0 win in the Millennium Stadium.
‘Daws’ returned to Spurs Lodge after that win and is now focused on Saturday’s trip to the DW Stadium.
The Latics ended a three-match losing streak in the Premier League with a last-gasp victory over Birmingham City last time out.
The battle to avoid the drop is such that Wigan remain bottom of the table yet just three points separate them from Blackburn in 13th.
And the skipper only has to look at our recent matches to validate the argument that encounters against teams fighting against relegation at this stage of the season are arguably the toughest of all.
“It will be a difficult game, just like we’ve had in recent weeks,” said Michael. “West Ham came to White Hart Lane last time out and frustrated us, they defended well but we had chances to win the game.
“It will be no different at Wigan. Just look at our recent matches against Blackpool (1-3), Wolves (3-3) and West Ham (0-0). Teams are fighting for their lives down there.
“Hopefully we can go there and get back to winning ways in the Premier League. We need to, because we’re determined to finish fourth. That’s our aim this season.
“We also owe them one after losing 1-0 to them at White Hart Lane earlier in the season.”
