Our German midfielder was delighted to be back in the thick of the action after a month out with an Achilles injury.
But he was left frustrated after a disappointing first half show and our failure to break the Saints down in the second half.
Nevertheless, Freund tried to put on a brave face afterwards. "I don’t think it was all negative," he said. "We kept a clean sheet again for the third time in recent games and this is a good thing because then you cannot lose.
"For me it was a good feeling to be back after four weeks out. I was a little surprised but I had a talk with George Graham on Friday, he asked me if I was ready to play and I said I was fit and always ready to play.
"It was a little difficult because I only had one training session with the team but now I am very happy."
Naturally, Freund was not so happy with the overall picture.
"It was frustrating," he admitted. "In the first half we gave them too many chances to score and it was too easy, one long ball, one flick and suddenly they were through.
"But what a performance from Ian Walker. He kept a clean sheet and we have to say thank-you to him.
"The second half was better because they only had one shot but in the end we have to say that a draw is okay because Southampton had the better chances."
