The German midfielder has just returned from a hamstring injury himself and may soon be followed off the treatment table by Steffen Iversen and Oyvind Leonhardsen. That will only leave Mauricio Taricco (groin) and Luke Young (broken foot) on the sidelines.
Freund said: “If every player is fit then we have a good chance to go up the league but you have to be realistic.
“I know the Premier League and sometimes if you have bad luck you can slide down very quickly. If Steffen and Oyvind are back in the team and then Youngy and Mauricio are fit then we will no doubt have more injuries.
“You can never say you have a full squad because I know football and in the next game you can pick up more injuries. I look forward and hope we can make the top six. It is better now to be realistic.
“We are good enough when everyone is fit but that never really happens in football.
“A lot of teams have this problem and this is why Manchester United and Arsenal are at the top because they have bigger squads and can handle it if they have injuries.”
Steffen Freund is convinced we are top-six material when everyone is fit — the only problem is reaching that status.
