Fredi Kanoute is targeting a place in the squad against West Brom in the FA Cup this weekend following good progress with his groin injury.
The striker suffered a hamstring strain after the Everton game at the beginning of the month and missed out against Manchester United and Brighton. He was hoping to return for the Chelsea encounter, but suffered a aductor problem in training and remained absent for the trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Fredi stepped up his training yesterday and is hopeful of some FA Cup involvement before the trip to Bolton the following Tuesday.
"I'm okay, I started doing good work today - acceleration, speed work and change of direction," he reported. "I hope on Tuesday to maybe start training with the group and end up with the fitness trainer. On Thursday I will train properly if all goes well.
"I don't know why why the second injury happened, maybe I wanted to come back too early, I don't know. I didn't feel anything in my hamstring, it was the groin, but both injuries were not very bad.
"It has just been annoying because I have missed four games now and was frustrated.
"I felt good in the last few games and it was frustrating to miss out through injury. Thankfully it was not a big one and we have got to try and make sure it does not happen again.
"My goal is to be in the squad so I can be ready for when the Premiership starts again on Tuesday. I would like to be in the group this weekend - if my fitness is good - so I don't lose too much time ahead of being part of the team or squad for Bolton."
