Frankly speaking...

Posted on 14 December 2004  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

With speculation kicking into overdrive as January approaches, our Sporting Director Frank Arnesen gives us his thoughts before the Transfer Window re-opens…

"It is always the same situation," said Frank at Spurs Lodge this afternoon. "Just like the summer, we are always looking at our own squad, how we are going and how we are developing.

"I must say that I’m happy with the squad. We have a good squad, a young squad with good players but on the other hand, because we are coming up to the window starting once more, a lot of rumours come up. That’s normal for a big club like Tottenham.

"The only thing I would say is that Tottenham Hotspur must always try, if we have possibilities, to get to a higher level and if we get that opportunity, we will do it. That is how I’m approaching it.

"Of course, we are constantly reading about players we are supposedly buying and players we are supposedly selling and I now understand all about the British expression 'take it with a pinch of salt'!

"But it’s normal because Tottenham Hotspur is a big club and we are always buying and selling players.

"We have done a lot of shopping this summer, I’m satisfied with what I’ve seen up to now but we must always try to do better if we can by strengthening the team and the squad because that is good for our own players. That is our approach in general."

Meanwhile, Frank was delighted with how we’d turned around our spell of six straight defeats with a third league win on the trot against Manchester City on Saturday.

"I must say it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, starting so well, then six defeats in a row and now three wins in a row.

"What I am always looking for is how we are progressing and that is in the dressing room, on the training pitch, in our ambitions and in our play. What I’m seeing in the last month is very good and I’m very pleased with it. The lads also give us confidence because they are training well, playing well and now we are winning as well, so it gives everyone at the club a good feeling.

"You feel the players are confident, they work hard and now we are seeing the fruits and you could see that on Saturday, probably the best football we’ve played this season."

With the usual speculation over transfers at this time of year, will supporters please note that spurs(((on!))) and the website are the only official sources of information. As soon as we have news to report, we will do it through these channels first.
