Fraizer Campbell is delighted with the reception he has received from our fans during his short time with us so far.

The striker, on-loan for the season from Manchester United, has impressed in his two substitute appearances to date.

In his first introduction, during the second half of last week's UEFA Cup win over Wisla Krakow, Fraizer set up the winning goal for Darren Bent.

And although he couldn't make a similar impact off the bench in our 0-0 draw with Wigan on Sunday, his determination to turn around our disappointing start to the season cannot be doubted.

"The fans have been really good with me so far, so things are good on a personal note," said Fraizer. "Hopefully my next step will be a goal!

"Against Wisla, the gaffer told me to go on and create something, and you've always got to try to bring something different to the table when you come on as a sub.

"It was good to be involved in the winning goal that night because that was my introduction to the fans as well and it set me off on the right foot.

"It was unfortunate I couldn't create a bit more or even score to win the game on Sunday, but I think we're starting to play better now and I'm sure it won't be long until another win.

"There are just a few little things we need to put right and I'm sure we'll be fine after that. Hopefully our bad patch is behind us now and we can start to stride on."

Now Fraizer is focused on tomorrow night's Carling Cup third round clash with Newcastle at St James' Park hoping to be part of a repeat of our success in the competition last season.

The England Under-21 international is also looking to go one better than he did against the Toon in his parent club's opening day draw with them at Old Trafford.

"When you're a player you want to be part of a winning team that can win a trophy, so I'd be happy if we could go on to win the Carling Cup again," he added.

"Newcastle are a decent side but hopefully we can beat them this time. Shay Given stopped me last time so I think he owes me one!"
