The Head Coach made seven changes from the side that drew at Chelsea on Saturday including first starts for Kasey Keller, Anthony Gardner, Goran Bunjevcevic and OJ Mabizela.
Anthony and Goran - his first for the club since his arrival in 2001 - were on the scoresheet in the 6-0 victory that set up a third round date at Bolton.
Jacques said: "This was a good result for the team and our fans.
"I am happy for all the players especially Keller, Mabizela, Bunjecvevic and Gardner.
"This game was good for me because it allowed me to play four players who have not yet started in the Premiership this season. It was important for those players to get a game.
"This competition I am taking very seriously because we are a new team with new players, a new manager and new assistant coaches. So it is important for us.
"Of course, each game is very imprtant for our fans but we also have a big game on Saturday against Manchester United so for our preparation and morale this was a very important win."
Jacques Santini was particularly pleased with the first starts of the season of a quartet of players in the Carling Cup win at Oldham last night.
