Forward thinking

Giovani Dos Santos believes we are a match for anyone going forward and is thoroughly enjoying pre-season with his new Club.

The Mexican international, who signed from Barcelona this summer, netted the second goal in our 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on Sunday to clinch success at the Feyenoord Jubileum Tournament.

Giovani was playing in a role just behind free-scoring Darren Bent alongside a host of fellow forward-thinking midfielders, and he believes this is the reason we were able to break down a strong German side.

He said: "The first half was very complicated because Dortmund were defensive, but the players enjoyed the second half because we played at pace so it was much better.

"We are looking very strong going forward with the players we have in attack, which is very good for the team. I hope we continue to play like that as we go into the season proper.

"Darren is a very good striker and it's easy to play with him because he's very quick. He's always available for a pass and I hope this understanding continues.

"For my goal I was one-on-one with the goalkeeper and was trying not to think too much about what I was going to do. I was just happy to score a goal in the end."

Gio also gave a special mention to his new fans who seem to have taken to him instantly as a result of his impressive pre-season displays.

He added: "The fans are unbelievable. I cannot find the words to describe them. Every time I play, the support is unbelievable and they always help to drive the team on."
