Marking the centenary of one of the most iconic moments of the First World War, the 1914 Christmas Truce football match, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace players will stand together for a pre-match group photograph to mark a ‘Moment in History’ and as a sign of respect to those who played in the football match that took place on Christmas Day 1914 in Flanders, Belgium.
This picture will be uploaded to www.footballremembers.com alongside similar images from other professional and amateur football clubs. Fans, community teams and schools are encouraged to follow suit and upload a pre-match photo to the Football Remembers website. All images uploaded will be stored in the digital archives of the British Library for future generations to see.
Football Remembers was designed to engage and educate football fans about the Christmas Truce football match in 1914 and football’s role in recruitment and morale during the First World War. So far, the initiative has seen the delivery of a series of programmes and events, including the launch of an education pack sent to more than 30,000 schools across the UK.
During Football Remembers Week, six young individuals from the local community will travel to Ypres, Belgium with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation coaches to take part in the Premier League’s annual Christmas Truce tournament. We’ll be following the six young players on their journey so keep checking back for updates.
