Today we kick off a new series of short interviews with our players, looking back on the 2014-15 campaign and ahead to next term. First up, Erik Lamela.

Attacking midfielder Erik Lamela capped his second campaign at Spurs by seeing his famous ‘rabona’ strike named as the Europa League’s goal of the season.

The Argentine international, who signed for us from Italian giants Roma in August, 2013, opened his goalscoring account for 2014-15 in some style as we took on Asteras Tripolis at White Hart Lane back on October 23, wrapping his left foot around his right and sending a delightful curling effort into the top corner of the net.

He doubled his tally later that night as we completed a 5-1 victory on the European stage, but it was his first effort that was recently named the Europa League’s best by a panel of experts and is currently up for nomination in our Under Armour Goal of the Season vote.

A week after that Asteras encounter, Erik was again on target in our Capital One Cup win over Brighton & Hove Albion and later scored important goals in the Premier League against Burnley and Southampton.

Currently in the Argentina squad taking part in the Copa America in Chile, Erik says he was happy to get more minutes under his belt in 2014-15 and is targeting a strong pre-season campaign when he returns from international duty...

Thoughts on the season overall?
I think it’s been a good season. I played in lots of games compared to the previous campaign, which was a difficult year for me because I had injuries and was settling into English football. But this past season I felt I knew more about the Premier League, was more confident and I think I did okay.

Your personal highlight of the season?
I wouldn’t like to pick out a single moment. I think the best thing for me was the number of matches I featured in and just the fact that I felt more settled and confident in my performances.

Plans for the summer?
I’m in the Argentina squad for the Copa America. It’s exciting to be part of the tournament in Chile and I hope we can perform well. If I get time afterwards I will go home and spend some time with my family.

Thoughts on pre-season?
After a short, nice rest I will be back at the Training Centre for pre-season. I’m looking forward to it, I plan to really work hard in pre-season and focus 100 per cent on having a good campaign.

Hopes for next season?
I hope to have a good pre-season and then enjoy a good campaign on the pitch. I think we can do a lot better and achieve great things because we have a lot of quality players at the Club. With a strong pre-season, I’m sure we can start the year well and build from there.
