One of our Football in the Community coaches has recently been to Gambia for a football coaching holiday. Equipped with footballs, training kit and school supplies, Andy Jesney and a team of coaches paid a visit to the Kotu tourist area of Gambia. Andy is seen here with the children modelling the Spurs FITC T-shirts we donated.
As well as a wide age range of children from seven years old up to adults, the facilities in Gambia varied from dust fields in villages to town municipal football grounds with grass. The coaches also faced language barriers but these were overcome as local coaches attended most of the sessions to help with translations.
Andy, who has worked for our community scheme for two years, said: "All in all, the coaching was very humbling - the children were so attentive and disciplined with their warm ups and training. One of our lasting memories will be the passion they showed when they saw a football."
