Anthony Gardner believes Ledley King provides the ideal example of what can be achieved when confidence and consistency are added to your game.
England man Ledley has been outstanding so far this season, looking every inch a pure pedigree since his baptism in international competition in Euro 2004 back in the summer.
He has also remained injury-free and able to forge a strong partnership with Noureddine Naybet at the back that has helped secure ten clean sheets so far in all competitions.
"That is how it can be when you get a run of games and work at it," considered Anthony, back in the first team frame himself on Saturday after a fragmented start to the season with foot problems.
"You get into a mode and mindset when you play well and have confidence in yourself. So you can use Ledley as an example of the consistency that can be found when you are fit, playing well and the team is doing well."
Anthony added that having two centre-halves remaining fit for long periods of time also greatly contributes to the stability of a team.
"A team in the Premiership needs a strong unit and I'm probably right in saying that the centre half partnership is the most important on the pitch. If you are both playing consistently it goes a long way towards keeping clean sheets, rather than people keep coming in and out."
