“It’s a beautiful club,” said the striker who joined us today - subject to international clearance - from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.
Vincent, 22, topped the Eredivisie goalscoring charts last season with 27 goals in his 34 appearances – on average a goal every 102 minutes in league football.
He scored 20 goals in the second half of the season, scored on his full debut for Holland against England at Wembley, finished the league’s top scorer by a goal from Luuk de Jong and was presented with the Johan Cruyff Trophy, awarded to the Eredivisie's young player of the year, which has previously been won by Rafael van der Vaart and Christian Eriksen.
Vincent made it clear he wanted to join us, so why Spurs? “Like I said, it’s a beautiful club and I have a great chance to develop myself here,” he added. “I can train with a young, talented group with very good staff and I’m ready to develop myself.
“I can grow with this group, it’s a very talented group and next season we’re in the Champions League as well, so that’s very nice.
“It’s always been a dream for me to play in the Champions League. When I was a little child I watched every game in the Champions League. I was so excited to watch that. Now it’s coming close.”
Vincent was thrilled to hear that Mauricio Pochettino had described him as ‘the perfect fit’ for the Club. “Of course, that’s really nice. That’s one of the reasons I chose to come to Tottenham, the way he thinks and how the team plays, I really like that.”
And finally, targets for next season? “I hope to play a lot, to score a lot of goals and to win prizes.”
