Ray Clemence had it spot on.

Evaluating Hugo Lloris ahead of Sunday's huge game against United at the Lane, legendary former goalkeeper Ray had this to say as part of our EZ Trader pre-match predictions.

"Hugo has been outstanding all year, one of the top goalkeepers out there, captain of the team and makes vital saves at vital times and that gives the team the chance to go on and win the game. You will see any goalkeeper make a great save but the team might be 3-0 down and it won’t really matter. Hugo is a goalkeeper who makes that save when it’s 0-0 or when you are winning 1-0 or even losing 1-0, but make a great save that will enable the team to go on and get something."

That's exactly how it played out.

We'd had the better of a tight game when, just after the hour mark, Anthony Martial burst dangerously into the box from the left and let fly from 14 yards but Hugo was ready and produced the save when, as Ray eluded to, it really mattered.

Eight minutes later, we were ahead through Dele Alli and five minutes after that, it was 3-0 and we were home thanks to another whirlwind spell at the Lane.

Back at Hotspur Way, it was just seen as business as usual by Hugo. "We had control of the game, we had the best chances but I knew that they would have one or two opportunities and you need to be strong in your mind, focused and concentrated throughout the game. That’s what we did, defensively we were very strong and that’s one of our strengths this season."

One of the goalkeeping greats, capped 61 times by England, Ray won the lot during a golden spell at Liverpool including five titles and three European Cups before joining us in 1981.

He helped us retain the FA Cup in 1982 and lift the UEFA Cup in 1984 as he made 33 appearances for us between 1981-87.

He added: "What I love about great goalkeepers is that they make the job look easy, they always look in control, never look ruffled. Hugo certainly does that. His decision making is fantastic behind that back four."
