Mauricio Pochettino announced that the central defender is fit and ready for the trip to Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday (3pm).
, who forged a key partnership with Toby Alderweireld last term, suffered an ankle injury on duty for Belgium in this summer’s European Championships.
However, he’s worked overtime to get back to fitness for the opener. “The good news is that he’s ready,” said Mauricio after training on Thursday.
“Last week was perfect and he’s trained with all the group. We’ll see what happens. It’s my decision tomorrow to include him in the squad or not.
“He’s worked really hard to try to start the season, we appreciate his effort and it’s been fantastic from the medical staff as well working with him.”
Mousa Dembele remains suspended but Dele Alli is available after completing a three-match ban last season.
