Tom Carroll reckons Thursday night’s game against Fiorentina will be a further test of the squad’s character.

We return to Europa League action in Italy off the back of a fantastic run of seven straight wins in all competitions.

Midfielder Tom, who was on loan at Swansea City last season and so wasn’t involved when we met Fiorentina in the same tournament 12 months ago, says the players are relishing the challenge of competing against a top European side once more.

And he’s hopeful that we can use the winning momentum built up over recent weeks to our advantage against a team currently sitting third in Serie A.

“Obviously I kept an eye on the games against Fiorentina last year and they looked a good side so we know it’s going to be a tough game, but we’re looking forward to it,” he said ahead of our round of 32 first leg clash.

“They’re doing well in Serie A at the moment so I’m sure they’ll be going for it. They beat Inter Milan 2-1 at the weekend so they’re a very good outfit and they’re a big European club so it will be a good test for us.

“Obviously we’re in good form ourselves with seven wins in a row now so if we can perform at the level we know we’re capable of then hopefully we’ll do well at their place.

“This is the calibre of game we enjoy and we’re certainly looking forward to it.”
