Toby calls for top performance against Red Devils

Toby Alderweireld says the players must continue to let their qualities shine through when we host Manchester United on Sunday.

The Belgian international defender made his competitive debut for us in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season and, although we lost narrowly on that occasion, he feels the team has made real progress in the intervening months – as evidenced by our lofty position in the Premier League table.

Now, as we look for what would be a first home win over United in 15 years, Toby says it’s important for the players to carry on their good work in a bid to win three potentially vital points in the run-in to the end of the campaign.

“A lot has changed since the first game against United,” he said. “Our team has played better and better as the season has gone on and now we have to show it for the last few games.

“We are playing well and showing great character and determination. We showed last week at Liverpool that we do not give up in matches, we showed real spirit to come back and draw after falling behind and we had chances to win the game as well.

“Now we have to produce another good performance against Manchester United. In the last couple of weeks they have been winning matches so we know they are in good form, but we can be confident at the Lane with our fans behind us. It’s up to us to show our quality.”
