The foe you know - City's Kyle Walker

Fri 15 December 2017, 11:03|Tottenham Hotspur

In this week's instalment of our recurring ‘The foe you know’ feature where we look at former Spurs players who could line up against us at the weekend, we reflect on the career of Manchester City's Kyle Walker.

Right-back Kyle Walker joined Manchester City over the summer and played against us for his new employers in our pre-season friendly in the United States.

A regular pick for Pep Guardiola, the England international has missed only two of table-topping City's Premier League games thus far – a 2-1 victory away to AFC Bournemouth in August through suspension after being sent off on his home debut against Everton and this week's 4-0 triumph at Swansea City, when he was named on the bench.

Kyle originally moved here from Sheffield United in a double deal that involved fellow right-back Kyle Naughton joining him at White Hart Lane. After a spell back with the Blades on loan, he came in for his Spurs debut in a 2-0 home win over Portsmouth in the Premier League in March, 2010.

After loan spells at Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa, Kyle started to play regularly under Harry Redknapp from the start of the 2011-12 campaign and, after scoring the winning goal in the north London derby with a long-range strike in October, 2011, in only his 11th senior appearance for us, he was named PFA Young Player of the Year at the end of that season, as well as landing a place in the PFA Team of the Year – a feat he repeated in 2017.

Part of our side that lost to Chelsea in the 2015 League Cup Final, Kyle represented England at Euro 2016, having missed the previous two major international tournaments through injury.

He featured as Mauricio Pochettino guided us to third and second placed finishes in the top flight – our highest in the Premier League era – over the last two seasons and racked up four goals in 229 appearances in our colours before heading to the Etihad.

We visit City at 5.30pm on Saturday, aiming to inflict their first league defeat of the campaign.
