Spurs v West Brom - Mauricio's preview

The players don’t need reminding of the importance of Monday night’s match against West Bromwich Albion, according to Mauricio Pochettino.

As our pursuit of Premier League leaders Leicester City heads into the last four games of the season, the Head Coach believes victory against the Baggies at White Hart Lane is a must if we’re to stand a chance of catching the Foxes.

Albion’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Thursday night means they’ve had less time to prepare for the game, but Mauricio says the players know what they have to do and are focused solely on their own performances.

“Like always, we expect a very tough game,” he said. “We know that we are in a period where we must win to still believe in our dream of winning the title. There’s no repeating this to the players, we say nothing because they know and we all know that this is a very important game for us.

“You never know what will happen with the opponent, this is difficult to guess. The only thing that we can control is us and how we are in the game. This is the most important thing – to focus on ourselves.”

Mauricio confirmed the atmosphere around our Hotspur Way training base remains electric in the wake of last Monday’s 4-0 victory at Stoke, although he says the players aren’t allowing their concentration levels to slip as we seek to cut down Leicester’s lead.

“It’s true that the mood around the training ground is fantastic, we are very close but in the same way the gap (to Leicester) is big,” he added. “We need to still believe, we need to be patient, we need to go day by day and try to arrive on Monday in our best condition.”

Kick-off is scheduled for 8pm. Head to our online Match Centre for all the build-up, in-game coverage and post-match analysis.
