APOEL boss Donis: 'I'm interested in whether Spurs play three or four in defence'

APOEL manager Giorgos Donis' eyes will initially be drawn to the defensive side of our line-up rather than the attacking one when the teamsheets come in for tonight's (Wednesday 6 December) tie in the UEFA Champions League.

We host the Cypriot side on the sixth and final matchday in Group H, already assured of our place in the last 16 as section winners.

Mauricio Pochettino has said that he will rotate his squad for the game and, for Donis, it's the decisions about who plays in defence that intrigue him most as he looks to avenge our 3-0 win in Nicosia earlier this season.

“I have seen Tottenham's squad. Even if they make changes, it will not alter their style of play,” he said.

“If (Harry) Kane remains on the bench then that could change the dynamic of the game. He is a player who is scoring with ease.

“What I am interested to see is if they start with three at the back or four.”

APOEL cannot make it through to the next round of the competition but are still in with a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Europa League if they can secure third spot ahead of Borussia Dortmund, who visit Real Madrid. The Germans are ahead of APOEL on goal difference going into tonight’s fixtures.

Asked how it will feel to manage his side at such an illustrious venue as Wembley, former Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield Town midfielder Donis explained: “To play at Wembley is a great feeling. We will try to do a good job and, with a bit of luck, maybe get a good result too.

“I don't feel any extra motivation being in the dugout at Wembley. I will do my best like always, but also enjoy the occasion. All that matters is putting the ball in the back of the net.

“The fact we are at the final matchday of the group phase and still competing for third place is very important.”

Tickets are on restricted general sale for tonight's match. To buy, supporters will need to have been on the ticketing database as of Wednesday 1 November 2017.
