Lucas: 'We can have a great game at Chelsea'

Lucas Moura says he’s seen more than enough from our recent displays against some of the other big-guns in Europe to have full confidence of ending our Stamford Bridge hoodoo this weekend.

The lightning-quick attacker has witnessed us register impressive victories over Manchester United and Arsenal, plus stage a late comeback to draw at Liverpool and stun Juventus in the Champions League before ultimately falling just short, since joining us from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the January transfer window.

Having enjoyed some extra time to work on his game at Hotspur Way during the international period, Lucas sees no reason why we can’t pick up a long-overdue league victory at Chelsea when top-flight action returns this weekend.

“It’s true, it’s a big game and I can’t wait for it,” said the 25-year-old. “I’m excited to be around, to hopefully be involved and I believe firmly that we can win.

“This year we are very good – we’ve had great games against Manchester United, Arsenal and even against Juventus over the two matches, so I’m sure we can produce a great game against Chelsea also because I think we are very, very talented.

“I’ve been waiting for this kind of match. The Premier League is the best league in the world and I’m happy to be here and to hopefully be involved in a London derby like this. It’s a big, big match, I’m excited for it and this week we will all prepare very well for it.”

A Brazilian international, Lucas has made six appearances in our colours thus far, including three assists and a goal in our run to the FA Cup semi-finals.

This weekend, he hopes to be able to claim bragging rights over two of his friends and fellow countrymen as we bid to stretch the current five-point gap between ourselves and the fifth-placed Blues, with the battle for Champions League qualification intensifying.

“I’m sure we can have a great game but we need to respect Chelsea because they are very strong,” he said. “Of course I know all about players like Willian – at this moment he is so good – and David Luiz also, who was my team-mate at PSG. They are my friends and I will be happy to see them.

“We will prepare for this game in the best way possible but I believe we can win there and that’s the most important thing – the three points that we need.”
