TELL US ABOUT PRE-SEASON SO FAR...
Harry: “It’s been great, tough, obviously, the heat has been a real factor in making it difficult but we’ve had some really good training sessions and the fans have been amazing. We’ve a great fanbase out here in America. We’re in good shape, we had a great result against PSG and now we have to continue that form against Roma.”
LOOKING AT ITALIAN OPPOSITION, ONE OF YOUR EARLIEST GAMES FOR ENGLAND WAS AGAINST ITALY. HOW WAS THAT EXPERIENCE?
Harry: “I remember Giorgio Chiellini took me out in the first minute of the game, my knee was throbbing for a good five, 10 minutes after! Italians are renowned for being strong defensively and tough to break down so when we play Roma we’ll try to outwork them and score some goals.”
AS A STRIKER, IS ITALIAN OPPOSITION THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE?
Harry: “They are certainly right up there but there are so many good teams and good players around, it’s not just Italian teams now. Of course, they are known for being good defensively but most teams at the top across Europe will be strong in that area.”
TALK ABOUT ROMA AND YOU TALK ABOUT FRANCESCO TOTTI. HE’S NOW RETIRED AFTER 25 SEASONS AT THE CLUB, SCORING 307 GOALS IN 786 APPEARANCES.
Harry: “What a player. He’s one of the best strikers to have ever played the game. For him to spend all his career at Roma takes some doing in this day and age. He’s a player who every other footballer in the world has full respect for, I’ve only ever heard good things about him and he’s an idol for me, one of my role models growing up. He’s certainly someone I can relate to in terms of a love for a Club. I’ve been at Spurs for 13 years now and that’s a long time, and I hope to be here for many more years. You build those relationships with the Club, the staff, the fans – that’s what you want and you go in to work happy every day.”
ROMA FINISHED SECOND IN SERIE A LAST SEASON, AGAIN UNDERLINING THE OPPOSITION WE’RE FACING ON THIS TOUR OF AMERICA HAVING BEATEN PSG IN ORLANDO AND THEN PLAYING CITY IN NASHVILLE ON SATURDAY…
Harry: “It shows how far we’ve come as a Club now, we’re playing some of the best teams in the world as part of our preparation for the Premier League and we want to see where we’re at. PSG was a competitive game and one we wanted to win. Roma will be no different.”
