The Black Cats boss saw his predecessor at the Stadium of Light, Sam Allardyce, retain five of our players in his first Three Lions squad recently – the same quintet that featured under Roy Hodgson at Euro 2016.
Ahead of Sunday’s clash, Moyes told reporters at his pre-match press conference that the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker have been key to our progress under Mauricio Pochettino.
“We’ve all been impressed by Tottenham,” he said. “Tottenham have become a club that people want to watch, I think because of the England situation because they’ve got some good English players.
“Our media in this country wants England to do well, which is correct, and wants them to have good young players and Tottenham have got that.”
Moyes also offered his verdict on our 2-1 defeat to Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday night and suggested we can enjoy another solid season on the Premier League stage: “I’ve watched quite a lot of Tottenham. Their manager has done very well, their team has done very well and I might go against the grain – I thought they were a little bit unlucky against Monaco the other night.
“I thought it could have gone the other way for them in the early part of the game, it didn’t, the goal for Monaco was definitely against the run of play and the game just went away from them a little bit.
“I think they are title challengers. I think they’ll be close with the squad they’ve got, the players they’ve got and I think the club they’ve got there demands that they’re always close.”
