When will Harry Kane be back?
Mauricio Pochettino: “We don’t know yet. He is doing well, he started to work on the pitch a few days ago. We are very positive, he is very positive but we’ll see when he’s available again. I cannot provide the time that he still needs. It’s not too long.”
And Danny Rose?
Mauricio: “He’s seeing the specialist this afternoon and then we’ll see. It’s true that he’s a little bit behind Harry Kane but we are positive too. We need to wait today for him to see the specialist.”
How frustrating is it that Erik Lamela now has to have surgery on his hip?
Mauricio: “We’ve taken different ways to try to help him to improve, we were very conservative but in the end it was impossible for him to fix the problem and the way that we are taking now we hope will help him to fix the problem and as soon as possible he will be with us to start his recovery. Now it’s important to give him all the support, all the love. For me, now he is not a player, he is a person – the human being is most important now and (we need) to try to help him. He has suffered a lot in the last four months and now the decision is important for him to believe that he can fix the problem and be on the pitch as soon as possible. It’s what he wants and what we want too.”
Can he play for Spurs again?
Mauricio: “Yes, of course. He is very young. It’s a situation that has allowed all to speak in different ways but we know very well what is happening, he knows very well too. It was a problem in his hip, we tried to fix it in different ways to try to avoid surgery but in the end we arrived at the last option and now we try to believe that is the way to fix the problem and, for him, the solution to be on the pitch again.”
What have you been focusing on during the international break?
Mauricio: “It’s always difficult for a club like us because nearly all the players were involved with their national teams. It’s always tough, it’s only a few players training and always it’s so difficult to keep the motivation – it’s very tough for them but I hope that it was a very good break. Today was the first time that we met all together here at the training ground and started to prepare for the game against Burnley. It’s true that it’s not too much time to prepare for the game but that is the competition, we need to accept that and we need to be ready to compete on Saturday against Burnley.”
How tough a prospect is it to go to Turf Moor?
Mauricio: “It will be tough. They are doing very well at home and we know very well that we need to fight from the first moment in the game. They are a very physical team, a very aggressive team and it will be tough. Not only must we give our best, we must be ready to fight for every single ball.”
Is Heung-Min Son back training after his long trip to Seoul for international duty?
Mauricio: “Yes, he is here. All the players arrived yesterday afternoon, he arrived, different players like Hugo (Lloris), Kevin Wimmer too and today we are all together. We met all together on the training ground this morning.”
How is Vincent Janssen after he missed the Netherlands’ matches through illness?
Mauricio: “Today he was with the group, he is okay after the illness he got with the national team. Tomorrow we need to assess him but he will be available to be in the squad for Burnley.”
Do you expect Harry Kane to be back fit before Danny Rose?
Mauricio: “Yes, or maybe at the same time. We need to wait today for the opinion of the specialist and we’ll see after. I hope that maybe both will arrive in the same time but both have different injuries – one is his knee, another his ankle, it’s completely different but I hope that before the end of the season, both are available to play.”
