Aurier, Sissoko and Son reflect on Brighton win

Thu 14 December 2017, 12:13|Tottenham Hotspur

Serge Aurier got a little help from Moussa Sissoko to express his delight at scoring his first Spurs goal on Wednesday night.

The right-back, signed in the summer from Paris Saint-Germain, benefitted from a slice of luck as his first-half cross sailed all the way in at the back post to set us on the way to a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Wembley.

Heung-Min Son completed the victory with his fourth goal in as many games.

Serge is still learning English but his close pal Moussa, who was his team-mate at Toulouse earlier in this career, was on hand to help with his post-match interview. Here’s what the lads had to say…

Serge Aurier and Moussa Sissoko

Serge on his goal
“I'm happy for the team, to score my first goal for Tottenham and for the victory. It's very important for the team.”

Moussa on Serge’s strike
“Of course we know Serge didn't do it on purpose but we're all happy for him because he came (to the club) this season and it's important for him to play and especially when you score your first goal for your new team you are very proud. It was a tough game and when Serge scored his goal it was good for us. In the end, we're all happy because it's an important three points and we keep winning.”

Moussa on breaking Brighton down

“It’s always tough. When a team plays against Tottenham, they try to play deeper and then of course we have the possession, we try to move the ball quickly and it’s hard to find the space. The most important thing was to win and we scored two goals so we’re happy. Now we have a massive game on Saturday against Manchester City so we’ll make sure to have a good recovery and be prepared for that game.”

Serge on adapting to the Premier League
“I’m good. It’s my first season here, the game is not the same (as in France), it’s very difficult but for me it’s good, it’s a big experience for me and for the team I’m happy.”

Moussa on what was more of a surprise – Serge scoring or Sonny scoring a header
“It’s difficult! I will say Sonny! Since I’ve been here it’s the first goal with his head, so it was a surprise. I’ve known Serge since I was in France and he scored a few goals with his feet, so I will say Sonny was lucky today!”

Heung-Min Son

On his goal
“Normally it's not my thing to score with a header but I'm really happy to score for the first time with my head for Tottenham. Maybe I last scored with a header three years ago. Honestly, I'm so happy to get the three points. It was tough, they defended well, 11 men in their half and it's difficult, sometimes you need a little luck.”

On Serge’s opener
“Everyone is so proud of Serge and I'm laughing because he's my good friend. I asked him ‘are you happy with this goal?’ and honestly, the goal he scored, the way the ball went into the net is not important. He scored in a difficult game and I’m really happy for everyone.”

What was more of a surprise – Serge scoring or you scoring a header?
“Difficult question! My header, I think! I scored a header but it’s been a long time and sometimes I need luck as well.”

How do you feel about your current form?
“I’m just trying to keep my condition and to play. I’m really happy and in the morning when I go to the training ground or come to Wembley or go somewhere else with my team-mates I’m just enjoying every second. I want to keep my form for my team-mates as well. Sometimes I can play badly but I want to try to help. Sometimes I can’t score but I always run for my team-mates. I just want to make it easier for them.”
