Mousa's focus

Mousa Dembele says the players are pacing themselves in a bid to continue picking up positive results.

Our Belgian international midfielder was once again a key figure in the middle of the park as we ran out 2-1 winners at City on Sunday to close the gap on Premier League leaders Leicester City to just two points.

With Europa League and FA Cup duties next on the agenda, Mousa insists that, while everyone is naturally thrilled with our fine form, the players won’t be getting carried away and are determined to maintain their focus during the crucial couple of months ahead.

“We still have to keep going game by game,” said the 28-year-old. “The next match is always important and we’ll see where we end up, but it’s looking very positive for us.

“We won’t try to dream, we’ll just have to stay very concentrated in each game. It was a difficult match on Sunday but we worked well. It was a big pitch but against a team like City we still played our football. As a team we did our job and we’re very happy with the three points.”

Reflecting on our latest triumph, Mousa reserved praise for Christian Eriksen and substitute Erik Lamela after they combined to produce the winning goal with seven minutes to go.

“It was a great sprint by Erik who had just come on and was fresh,” Mousa continued. “He picked the right pass and Christian’s first touch was class. After that I knew it would be a goal.

“There is such a great vibe in the team and it was an amazing feeling to win like that.

“It’s not only now - we’ve proven that we can win away from home with how we’ve been playing all season. We are solid as a team and we’re very happy!”
