Lamela: 'It's important to play well at home from the start'

It took Erik Lamela 30 minutes after the draw at Everton - probably even less - to start thinking about Palace and a return to White Hart Lane this weekend.

The Argentine forward took his fine pre-season form into the real thing on Saturday, delivering a fine glancing header to secure what turned out to be a deserved point in the Premier League opener at Goodison Park.

It could have been better - Erik saw his shot somehow turned onto the crossbar by Maarten Stekelenburg and Vincent Janssen was denied a dream debut winner by the goalkeeper.

Asked for his emotions on his way out of Goodison, Erik explained: “At least we didn’t lose after the way we started. It’s one point. We’re not happy with the result because we came here to win the game, but that’s football.

“We are thinking now about the next game. It’s important for us to play well at home from the start, we need the three points.”

As always, Erik appeared unconcerned about his own form, adding: “I’m good, thank you, but I’m always looking for the team.

“Today, we didn’t win. I wanted to win, the team wanted to win and that’s most important, always. We didn’t get the three points and now we need to be ready for the next game.”
