Hugo hails winning mentality
Hugo Lloris believes the team spirit and positive attitude among the players this season bodes well for our long-term future, as well as the immediate one.
Our French international goalkeeper was in fine form during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Liverpool, producing a series of stunning saves to contribute to our eventual share of the spoils.
When the full-time whistle blew at Anfield, the skipper admitted all the players felt like they should have taken more from the game.
But he said that mindset in itself is a sign of the times and can only be a good thing going forward.
“We have a winning mentality and that’s good – not just for this season, but for the future as well,” he said.
“We have a young squad but a very determined one and we showed again this weekend that we are strong, we have character and we just needed a bit of luck. It didn’t happen here – maybe next time!”
Reflecting in more detail on Saturday's draw with Liverpool, Hugo felt we could have earned greater rewards for our second-half showing on Merseyside.
“It was a big game with a lot of intensity,” he added. “Liverpool played a great game but we finished stronger than them and maybe with another five minutes we could have scored the second goal.
“Overall, it’s a good draw, a fair draw. In the first half they had bigger chances than us, in the second half we were much better and we finished stronger.”
