Son, Llorente, Alderweireld and Kane reflect on Dortmund triumph

Thu 14 September 2017, 12:12|Tottenham Hotspur

Heung-Min Son spoke of an "unbelievable feeling" after his first Wembley goal set us on the way to a magnificent victory over Borssia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League, while Toby Alderweireld and debutant Fernando Llorente were quick to praise our supporters for the part they played on Wednesday night.

Sonny struck early to give us the lead in our first European game of the season and after Andriy Yarmolenko levelled for the German side, Harry Kane followed up with his second brace of the week to get us well and truly up and running in Group H.

Serge Aurier was impressive on his debut from the start, while striker Fernando replaced Harry in the closing stages for his first appearance in our colours following his move from Swansea City.

Here's what the players had to say to us afterwards...

Heung-Min Son

Feelings after the game
"It felt unbelievable. I think we deserved to win this game, we played well, it was a great team performance, everyone worked really hard and we’re happy to win a game like this at Wembley."

Thoughts on his early goal
"It wasn’t just me, the team was great. Everyone worked really hard. My goal had a bit of luck as well, a sharp angle, but I shot and had a good feeling. It’s my first goal at Wembley and I’m really happy to score. Now I want to keep it going. It’s an unbelievable feeling. The fans were amazing again, their support, I can’t say the words, unbelievable. I’ll continue to work hard. I’m happy but not happy with just one goal, I want more goals."

On our Champions League state of play
"I’ve played a lot of times against Dortmund and they are a big team so it gives us great confidence to win against them. We are ready to race in this Champions League group and we’re confident now. The players all know what happened last season, not great Champions League games but we've learned and we’ve done a great job. I’m proud of my team-mates."

Fernando Llorente

Thoughts on his debut
"I’m very happy to play today, my first minutes felt good. The atmosphere, with our supporters, was fantastic. We need them to play better and I’m very happy to play in this amazing stadium in front of them. Now I have to continue to work and wait for my opportunity to help the team."

On the match itself
"Today was a very good game for us, for our confidence. We beat a very good team in Borussia Dortmund and it was very important for us to get this result. The team as a whole played a great match."

Toby Alderweireld

Thoughts on the outcome
"The fans were behind us from the first minute and the first half was difficult, but we learned from last season. We played with our heads. It was difficult but we stayed compact as a team and we fought. The second half was better and we could have killed the game a lot earlier. We worked very hard against a very good team and it’s a little step, but a good step. It’s very positive to win our home games against a very good team in Dortmund and we’re all very happy."

Harry Kane

On the team's display
"It was an experienced performance from us. We learned from last season that you can't always press teams high up the pitch, sometimes you have to be patient for your opportunities and catch teams on the counter. We did that, we were solid, they didn't look too much of a threat and we found space in behind."

On his own outing
"It's one of the best games in my career so far. We spoke about doing it on the big stage against the big teams so to score a couple tonight and win in the way we did in front of these fans - who deserve a win here - was fantastic."
