Right-back Kieran was thrown in for his first league start of the season at Vicarage Road – much like he was last season – on New Year’s Day with Kyle Walker suspended.
And inside 33 minutes he’d marked the occasion by setting up Harry for both his goals as we surged into a 2-0 lead.
Dele Alli then got in on the act with strikes in the moments either side of half-time as we powered to an eventual 4-1 win.
Reflecting on the contest, Harry was thankful to former Burnley man Kieran for his assists – and then revealed how he’s relishing his own personal duel with Dele to be our leading scorer on the domestic scene.
“Big thanks to Kieran – they were a couple of great balls in, the second one was a great delivery from him and I was happy to be in the right place at the right time and finish them off, but it was down to Trips,” said the striker.
“The delivery he put in (for 2-0) was perfect. Every player wants to be playing but sometimes you have to be patient and wait for your chance and Kieran has taken it today. He’s shown the manager what he can do, we’ve got great competition in the full-back places – right- and left-back – so it’ll give Trips the world of confidence and hopefully we can push on now and keep winning games.”
Harry is now into double figures for Premier League goals this term, but after setting up Dele twice as the midfielder took his own domestic tally to eight, Harry smiled: “Dele notched a couple again today so he’s chasing me in the Premier League goals tally for the season – it’s good fun, hopefully we can keep going!
“It’s obviously great to provide goals as well for the team, but the most important thing is winning games. It’s a fantastic way to start the New Year. Two goals, a 4-1 win away from home – it doesn’t get much better.”
