'First England, now Spurs' - Kane and Dele love winning at Wembley!

The feeling of winning at Wembley is familiar to Harry Kane and Dele due to their England international exploits, so imagine how chuffed they were to share that joy with their club team-mates after Wednesday night’s 3-1 victory over CSKA Moscow at the national stadium.

Both players were on target as we closed out our Champions League campaign by completing the double over the Russian side, qualifying for the Europa League in the process.

Here’s what they, along with the impressive Harry Winks and a returning Toby Alderweireld, had to say to us after the match…

Harry Kane

Good to win at Wembley with Spurs as well as England?
“Definitely! It’s the first time I’ve won here with Tottenham, it was important to finish strongly in the Champions League with a win at Wembley and now we can take that momentum into the Europa League when we’re back here in February. It could have been more than three goals but it’s a great result and we’re happy to be in the Europa League now.”

Why was this performance better than against Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen?
“It’s hard to say. We moved the ball well today, we found space in behind and the performance was better. Maybe because both teams were out it took a bit of pressure off but it’s hard to put a finger on it. We knew we had to be better in the other games, we weren’t, but we have to learn from it and it’s good to end with a bit of pride here today.”

Dele

On ending our tough spell at Wembley
“It was important for the fans that we got the win and we put the rumours about the Wembley factor to bed. It was nothing to do with that, we just didn’t perform (in previous games) and it was important we showed that we can perform well and got the win. For our confidence, it was important that we got a good victory behind us going into the Europa League and the game on Sunday against United.”

On additional experience at the national stadium with every game
“The boys are getting used to playing here and it’s always a great feeling playing at Wembley, it’s just disappointing with the results we’ve been having. It’s always a great place to come, the fans have been outstanding and it’s important that we continue getting wins.”

On his early spurned chance
“It was a pass back to the keeper! It was one of those – I’ll be kicking myself later because I could have got four or five. The most important thing was the team got the win. When you miss chances like that you can’t stop thinking about them and it was important I got my head up, carried on and put the next one away.”

Harry Winks

On his opportunity at the national stadium
“It was amazing to start at Wembley. It was an amazing atmosphere, brilliant. It was good to get 90 minutes again and most importantly good to be in a winning team. For me, every game I play I soak up the experience. Today was a different learning curve, we knew CSKA were going to be a tough side and they were going to get in our faces in and around their half. By playing in the Champions League at the highest level, there’s nothing but good experiences you can take.”

On the difference in performance compared to previous games at Wembley
“There wasn’t a change of mentality as such – we knew we had a job to do and we got it done. We’re playing with a lot more confidence now, especially after the Swansea win. We took that into the game as well and it was an all-round very good performance today. I thought Harry and Dele were excellent in front of goal but the most important thing is that we got the win and the team collectively was excellent today as well.”

Toby Alderweireld

On where we stand
“It was important to win to stay in Europe and to finally win at Wembley. Now we go onto the next one. It’s important we’ve got two wins in a row (this week) now, we have to push on, get results and work very hard to get results because it’s not easy.”
