Eriksen analyses fine fourth goal against Everton

Mon 15 January 2018, 10:39|Tottenham Hotspur

He said it himself. It was the icing on the cake in a brilliant team performance as we swept Everton aside 4-0 at Wembley on Saturday.

After a passage of play that initially started with goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and went through all 11 bodies in Lilywhite, Christian Eriksen applied the finishing touch to a superb team move to complete the scoring nine minutes from time.

We spoke to the Danish international star to talk through that eye-catching fourth goal in detail…

What were your initial thoughts on your goal?
“I think the whole build-up was very, very good and what happened after the build-up was just the icing on the cake really. It was the right timing and a good feeling.”

Imagine you’re the commentator – talk us through it from your point of view…

“Harry to Serge, Serge to Sonny, Sonny chips it past the defender, Dele looks around and flicks it on with his back-heel and I finish it off. I think it was a commentator’s dream because everything really happened so quickly. You just finish the sentence and then you have to go again, so it was a good goal.”

Did you expect the back-heel from Dele?
“Yes, I was expecting it. I thought at first it was for Sonny but he told me after that it wasn’t for Sonny so it was good that Dele saw me. He has good awareness so it was a very good ball. He said afterwards he was a little bit scared of how long the ball would travel but I was on it quickly so it was a good one.”

Did you feel pressure to finish it off after such a great passage of play?
“No, you think about that afterwards if you’ve missed it but at that moment it’s just really about trying to focus and keep your head to finish it off well. Luckily their keeper went to the other side and gave me the opportunity to shoot into the corner.”
